Hi again Puti,
I guess it might also help if I knew or could see a sample of what grade you have used in the past. Will that be possible?
Cheers

Hi Puti,
Yes I do make paper from muka (the fibre of NZ flax). Tenax Papers have several harakeke grades and if they are not quite what you want I'm pretty sure I can manage to get a better match to your needs. Tenax papers has a sample swatch. If you contact me I should be able to send you one when I get back to base. E-mail me your address on strmypetrel@hotmail.com
Cheers

Hello
I am new on this site but very interested in taking part in the Canberra symposium. I have a question. Is the above event "Impact 7" the same as the one called "Materiality" at 15-17 October? And who else from New Zealand is going?

Always read and understand the manufacturer’s safety warning when handling commercially available chemicals. Ferric Chloride can be harmful if swallowed or inhaled. Wear gloves to prevent staining of hands.

Has anybody tried using hessian as mull ?
It has a very open wove with a slightly scratchy finish.
I have a 50m roll of the stuff. A HUGE roll.
I'll try washing it and use some spray-on starch to see how it goes.
I am sure it will be too rough, but you never know - and I have far too much of it too. Hessian is also available very cheaply from material shops.
I am sure it can be used for something besides cleanup rags...

Edinburgh Etch can also be improved by using an aquarium pump to aerate the mordant. Though for aquatint it's best to etch without the pump.
The etch can also be used in a vertical etching tank.
250g citric acid + 3/4 litre warm water
+
4 litres ferric chloride
is a standard recipe amount can be adjusted using this ratio. Should last for 2 -3 years.
